In this blog series, we’ ll discuss various claims documents from which leading insurance companies can automatically read and process all data using Intelligent Document Processing (IDP).
Similar to gym bills and pharmacy receipts, insurance companies only contribute to dental costs if complementary insurance has been taken out. Dental invoices make up a low volume overall, which means that automations are not worthwhile for insurance companies. This means manual processing of dental invoices by employees and a significant reduction in operational efficiency.
With Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), this changes abruptly: Thanks to the quickly integrated and powerful cloud OCR solution, insurance companies can finally process document types with smaller volumes such as dental invoices automatically and thus accelerate their entire claims processing.
Legacy OCR solutions not built for flexibility
Unlike TARMED invoices, which are received in large volume, insurance companies usually do not have an automation solution built in for document types such as dental invoices. The integrated legacy OCR solutions are not designed for flexibility. The effort required to configure each additional document type is therefore too great and far too expensive.
The short-term consequence of this is manual data capture and processing of dental invoices. The medium-term is significant setbacks as far as end-to-end automation is concerned. This not only delays claims processing, but also negatively impacts customer satisfaction due to longer waiting times for any reimbursements.
Processing dental invoices with Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) is completely different from conventional OCR solutions. With IDP, insurance companies can automatically process the various unstructured and semi-structured document types and layouts of claims processing.
With IDP: Insurance companies automatically extract dental invoices
With IDP, insurance companies automatically read relevant document types in claims processing such as dental invoices. As shown in the example photo from the cloud OCR software platform, this works perfectly thanks to pre-trained document types that are ready for immediate use (without any configuration on part of the insurance company).
The extracted data is qualitatively enhanced and provided in a structured form for further processing. This is of high importance for insurance companies and their end-to-end automation.
IDP is used to extract the following data from dental invoices, among others:
- General information: Dentist, address, patient information, etc.
- General invoice information: Collective invoice, date dental treatment from and date dental treatment to, etc.
- Line items: Date per treatment, tariff number, description of dental treatment, amount, etc.
No-Code App for individual customizations on document type
In the event of further requirements for a document type in claims processing, for example additional line items, thanks to the no-code app even project managers who are less IT-savvy can easily make their own adjustments to the document type.
